Beauty do's and dont's for 2014

2013 was full of new makeup trends and also some old one's that should stay in the past. Let's take a look at which beauty trends you need to stick with and others that you probably should never do again.

Ladies, please take note, unless you are a performer (i.e. on stage, drag queen, celebrity) please, please, please erase these trends from your memory and start 2014 with a fresh clean look.  Here's my top 5
No, No's!

#1. Excessive Contour and Highlight

If you're an instagram makeup junkie like me, then I'm sure that you have noticed the overlly applied highlight and contour on some of the guru's / everyday people that think that they are a makeup artist or "Self-taught" artist. (Not to knock any of these because some of you are truly talented!)

Now, please do not take this the wrong way but you are not Renny Vasquez or Daniel Chinchilla and until you take a class from someone comparable in this category, please refrain from walking out of the house looking like this:

DONT!

Shown below, is the proper way to do a contour and highlight. Please keep in mind that contour is based on your face shape. Not every method of contouring is the proper way to contour your face. What works for one person may not work for you.
DO!

#2.  Boxed Eyebrows: Ok, I'm going to try to be as nice as possible because I know how it is to see a new trend and try to copy it but this is a big no, no!

NO!

NO, NO!

Why?!? I seriously do not understand the boxed brow look. Ladies, please stop watching the tutorials that show you how to achieve this look because it's just wrong and you look silly.

Your eyebrows complete your entire look. If they are arched to high, boxed or too thin, it will not compliment your look. Here's a guide to assist you in arching your brows:

For a more natural look, go for something like this:

YES!
#3. LASHES: Oh, how I love to add some eyelashes to accentuate my look. However, there is a time and a place for fake lashes and you can not just put on any lash for everyday wear.

DONT!

DONT!
Instead of an over dramatic lash, try a more natural look like this:

PC: Lavishlash.com
YES!!

#4. Cut Crease: This is not necessarily a new trend since the cut crease has been around since Whitey Snyder did Marilyn Monroe's makeup. However, I notice this a lot on instagram and youtube. Once again, unless you have a show or a special event that calls for over dramatic makeup, please do not go to work or to wal-mart looking like this:

NO!

NO, NO!

Blend, blend, blend! I cannot stress this enough, you have to blend out your crease and the edges or you will be the talk of the night, I mean seriously, don't do it.

Now I'm not saying that you cannot add dimension and colors to your crease, by all means please do. However, you have to blend out those harsh line. Go for a more natural cut crease like this one:

YES!!

#5. Bold Lips: I seriously live for a bold lipstick. However, there is a time and a place for this type of look.

NO!

NO, NO!
While the look shown above looks amazing for a photo shoot or even a party, this look should not be worn everyday. As makeup artist we love playing with color so I personally enjoy doing this look but it's just not for everyday.

What are some looks that you'd prefer to leave in 2013? Feel free to comment below and share them with me! :)

Until next time, stay beautiful!
